The area surrounded by the Shinano River, Agano River, and its tributary, the Koagano River, which flows through the Niigata Plain, forms an area called "Kameda Township".
Kamedago Town develops as its center. bottom. Agriculture and industry are currently the main industries.
In agriculture, rice, pears, and plums (known for the varieties of Fujigoro plums) are used, and in industry, rice crackers and sewing machine parts are famous.
However, in the early Taisho era, the textile industry was in its heyday as much as the industry. It is the northernmost cotton producing area in Japan, and "Kameda stripes" were produced by more than 600 vendors.

The origin of the traditional industry "Kameda-striped" is said to be the Kyoho era and the Kansei era, but it is not clear.
According to the historical chronology of the Kameda district, around the 9th year of Genroku (1696), "around this time, cotton stripes (later Kameda stripes) began production."
According to this, it has a history of more than 300 years.
And, the cotton fabric that was woven for the self-sufficiency of farmers in the rural area centering on Kameda was collected and sold by the merchants of Kameda.
The name was widely spread as "Kameda stripe". ..
Since the 10th year of the Meiji era, the number of hatayas engaged in textile manufacturing has increased, and they have been sold to Tohoku and Hokkaido by local Kameda wholesalers.
In the 40's of the Meiji era, the industrial base was established by adopting footsteps, improving dyeing technology, and establishing a trade association.
The heyday of "Kameda Stripe" was reached in the Taisho era. Navy blue stripes and white stripes were the main production, but the improvement of dyeing made it possible to express vivid stripes.

"Kameda Stripe", which has a history of more than 300 years, will soon come to an end.
Until then, "Kameda-striped", which was a simple rural clothing item and was the first to be used as a cowboy, was replaced by a kimono for the general public. br> Wartime designated production began and the curtain on history ended here.

About 300 years ago, it is a traditional woven fabric that was born in the Kameda district, which is the northernmost cotton producing area.

      "Kamedajima" is characterized by its good texture and beautiful pattern woven with indigo.
      It's been three years since I tried to revive "Kameda Stripe", and the place name "Kameda" is about to disappear, and the hataya is about to disappear. The production of the cotton fabric "Kamedajima" used in the above was revived for the first time in half a century.
